We are based in Peebles but offer our courses throughout the Scottish Borders and Lothians as well as the rest of Scotland.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) at SCQF Level 6
Minimum 6 hours, 3-year certificate
This qualification is ideal for low hazard environments (e.g., offices, shops, libraries) or where your needs assessment identifies a requirement for a first aider trained in emergency first aid at work.This qualification meets statutory requirements for Emergency First Aid at Work purposes.
Course content:
Roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse, choking, bleeding & shock, seizures, CPR & AED use, minor injuries, accident reporting and first aid kits.

Emergency First Aid at Work +Forestry (EFAW+F)
Minimum 7 hours, 3-year certificate
This course in designed for those working in core operations in a forestry context such as harvesting, civil engineering, mechanized ground preparation, planting, fencing or similar. The course is standard Emergency First Aid at Work with an add-on element for forestry specific hazards:
· Severe chainsaw cuts
· Crush injuries
· Hypothermia
· Lyme disease

First Aid at Work (FAW) at SCQF Level 6
Minimum 18 hours, 3-year certificate
If employees are working in higher risk environments where they may be faced with life-threatening incidents or where they may have to manage illness, injury, poisoning or burns, then the 3-day First Aid at Work course will meet statutory first aid requirements.
Provided the candidates FAW certificate has not expired by more than 1 calendar month the contact time may be reduced to 12 hours (First Aid at Work Requalification FAWR)
Course content:
Roles & responsibilities, dealing with collapse, choking, bleeding & shock, seizures, CPR & AED use, minor injuries, accident reporting and first aid kits, major illnesses, common & serious workplace injuries, poisoning, anaphylactic shock, burns & eye injuries.

Outdoor First Aid (OFA) at SCQF Level 6
Minimum 16 hours, 3-year certificate
This qualification is designed to meet the needs of those working away from immediate assistance (more than 30 mins) in the remote and rural regions of the UK. This course is recognised throughout the UK and is the course of choice for experienced practitioners who use the outdoors. It is suitable for workers in rural and remote settings and will maintain the license to practice for those with Outdoor National Governing Body Instructor awards.
Course content:
The course is standard Emergency First Aid at Work and includes major illnesses, torso and limb injuries, environmental effects, outdoor specific scenarios, and outdoor incident management.

First Aid for Sports, Exercise and Fitness (FASEF) at SCQF Level 6
Minimum 7 hours, 3-year certificate
This qualification is for the sports person, coach, spectator, or other involved adult. As well as the basic life support and illness management topics found upon most first aid courses, this qualification includes key sports related incident management topics. This qualification is recognised throughout the UK.
Course content:
Roles & responsibilities, first aid at sporting events, first aid kit, incident assessment, CPR and use of AED, management of the unconscious casualty, safe airway position, action for vomiting, choking and suspected heart attack, head and facial injuries, management of concussion based on the Scottish guidelines, spinal injuries, limb injuries, bleeding, medical conditions, and environmental issues.
KCA Training is a Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFA) recognised first aid supplier. We have developed an 8-hour Sports First Aid course designed to meet all the criteria suggested by the SFA Medical Committee. A small amount of additional pre-course work is required. A FASEF certificate will be awarded on passing the assessment criteria.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA)
6 hours, 3-year certificate
This qualification indicates an individual can undertake the role of first aider in a position that has responsibility of caring for infants and children. It may also have been identified as necessary by a workplace risk assessment.
Topics include:
Planning for and dealing with first aid emergencies involving babies and children, including, CPR, shock, anaphylaxis, bleeding, choking, seizures.

Paediatric First Aid (PFA)
Minimum 12 hours, 3-year certificate
This qualification is designed for workers caring for children in the absence of their parents. This qualification meets Ofsted requirements for those working in early years settings. Currently the EYFS statutory framework requires at least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate to be on the premises or outings at all times, when children are present.
Topics include:
Planning for and dealing with first aid emergencies involving babies and children including, CPR, shock, anaphylactic shock, electric shock, bleeding, burns and scalds, choking, suspected fractures, head, neck and back injuries, poisoning, foreign bodies in eyes, ears and noses, eye injuries, bites and stings, effects of extreme heat and cold, febrile convulsions, chronic medical conditions, including epilepsy, asthma, diabetes, meningitis, and other serious sudden illness.
